Frequently Asked Questions

Accounts, favourites, your own recipes, and the odd bit of fine print.

Do I need an account to use Spooky Bites?

No. Every recipe, the quiz, and the menu planner work without signing in. An account only adds a few extras: your favourites follow you across devices, and you get a profile page to add your own recipes and tag photos of the ones you've made.

What happens to my favourites if I don't sign in?

They're saved in that browser only, using localStorage. Sign in and they'll move to your account instead, so they show up wherever you're signed in.

How do I sign in?

Click "Sign in" in the navigation, then either continue with Google or create an account with an email and password.

Can I add my own recipe?

Yes. Sign in and open My Profile — there's a "My Recipes" section with a simple text box for a title and the recipe itself, which appears right there on your profile.

Can I share a photo of a recipe I made?

Yes. From My Profile, upload a photo and tag which official recipe it's of. It'll show up in a reader-photo gallery on that recipe's own page, as well as on your profile.

How do ratings and reviews work?

Sign in on a recipe page to leave a star rating and, if you like, a short review. You can leave one rating per recipe, and you're welcome to update it later.

Does the newsletter actually send emails?

No — the newsletter signup and the "notify me about new recipes" setting are both demos. Nothing is emailed; Spooky Bites is a student project without real email sending.

Is my data private?

The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. See the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy pages for the full details on what an account stores and why.
